The Sagra te lu ranu in Merine: the typical flavors of Salento

Sagra te lu Ranu Merine

The Sagra te lu Ranu (from the Salento dialect: Sagra del Grano) is an event that for about 20 years has accompanied the hot month of July in the town of Merine , a small fraction of Lizzanello a few kilometers from Lecce.

Born as a modest event organized by the Parish Committee in the open space in front of the San Giovanni Bosco Pastoral Center in Via Montenegro, it was the celebration of the typical Salento cuisine with numerous dishes based on wheat flour as protagonists. Homemade pasta with cacioricotta, pucce, pan pizzas, focaccia and the inevitable pittule (balls of fried leavened dough).

Over the years, the authenticity of the festival that celebrates the good harvest and wishes everyone to be able to have a good meal all year round has taken hold involving numerous visitors from neighboring countries to become an appointment awaited by tourists and Salento ready to taste the typical dishes while the pizzica resounds throughout the town.

The Sagra te lu Ranu is an event not to be missed, even for tourists who have never visited the small town of Merine, little advertised compared to other villages because it is more modest in architecture and historical monuments but equally authentic and appreciable. & nbsp;
